Sonic Origins developer Simon Thomley has a few words for Sega after launching a difficult remake of the series. Thomley, founder of Sonic Origins co-development studio Headcannon, took to Twitter to vent his displeasure at Sega’s introduction of “wild bugs” into the game.

“It’s frustrating,” he said. “I’m not going to lie and say that what we gave Sega was fine, but the stuff in Origins didn’t match what we provided either. The integration introduced some common mistakes, and legacy logic was our responsibility – many of them didn’t.”

Headcannon worked with Sega on the critically acclaimed Sonic Mania in 2017. They helped create Sonic Origins, a remake of the series’ Sonic 3 & Knuckles. However, Tomley now suspects that he and his team were actually working on a “separate project that was later argued to be quite different”.

Sonic fans, on the other hand, were unhappy after Sonic Origins replaced the original soundtrack for Sonic 3, and Sonic creator Yuji Naka has withdrawn his suggestion that Michael Jackson was involved in the original soundtrack.
